Bay Area

I made it back safely from an awesome long weekend in the Bay Area! It was a real chill time for me, and I got to kick back with some of my best friends. The Fatlace Word Up event was insanely good. I was able to get out on the course with my STI a few times. The car felt extremely planted! I did a bit of filming with my cheap Flip cam, and the results are below. I'm still working on a big compilation video from the weekend. So check back in soon!

I finally had my DXD clutch installed this week. My starter also went out at the same time, but it's all good because I have some driving to do up north and that would suck if it went out then. The clutch feels amazing! I haven't been able to completely get crazy with it because it takes 750 miles to break in, but I can already feel such a big difference. The clutch engages really quickly, and the acceleration feels better now. I'm looking forward to getting it on the track next saturday!

My new clutch came in today, and I'm excited to get this installed! It will handle all the power I could make on a stock motor. I'm ready to make some more power, and my stocker is no longer holding launches. The car feels a bit slower now too due to decreased clutch grab. You'll be seeing my car in action very soon!

I'm currently working on my friend's new Celica/Supra. It is extremely clean and all original. It may be the best stock example I've seen stateside. I'm helping him sort out the suspension so he can get is sitting lower and performing well. These cars came extremely soft from the factory. The next step after that will of course be wheels, and then we'll start working on more power. I hoping to get the car looking as clean as the one below.

Turns out the guy who owns the Celica above is a real douchenozzle. I posted a newer pic of it on Hellaflush. A few comments were made that the guy is a real jerk, and he will probably flip out when he sees this pic posted because he hates his car being posted online.

I completely forgot I didn't update my blogspot about Subiefest 2010. Well first off it was a pure blast! The WFC homies rolled hard into the main parking area early morning. We had three easy-ups, three grills, and more food and drinks you could imagen. We got stuffed! The Crew had their own makeshift Raffle that included some funny T-shirts and random JDM stuff. It was tons of fun, and It's spawned what should be another WFC coming up before 2010 runs out!

I'm putting some of the grip back in the Grippymonkey. I picked up some new (used) Dunlops yesterday and had them mounted today. I had to get rid of those garbage Nexens that came on the new wheels I got ASAP. I haven't got to rip it yet because my toe needs to be adjusted, but already I can feel a huge difference.

I go back and forth between wanting 17's and 18's on my STI. The car is a good bit faster with 17x9's compared to 18x9.5's with a fat lip. I want to be a little lower all while having a little extra kick power wise. A guy up north made an even trade with me for my XXR's. Although the DPT's don't have the bling of the XXR's I was looking for something a little more low key. The tires will not stay. They are just terrible. I don't mind 255's, but the height is too tall. The Nexens grip like plastic. So I'll be narrowing it down a little when I can. So here's a meaty flush pic.

All I wanted to say is bike racks, roof racks, board racks, etc etc are plain stupid as an accessory item. Soo many folks in the fitment community think it looks dope to have a rack on with stickers all over the windscreen cause they saw another car with it. It does not elevate your cars cool factor at all. In fact it makes it look like a kids clown car. You know how I know it's played out and annoying? The first thing a newb says that joins a fitment forum is they are going to save up for some dope shizzy wheels, a sick drop, and throw a bike rack on with some stickers all over it. I'd like to officially say it is still cool to have a clean ride folks. Please stop faking the funk and buying a rack and a neon colored BMX or Fixed gear bike that you can't even ride because you think it adds fasion to your ride.

Sorry to the people that actually ride bikes or other things that needs a rack on their car. I'm also sorry to the first handful of people that had racks on with stickers because it was original... you had a good thing going. Now it's just wack.

You mainly see ratty looking FC's. I don't think too many people took care of them through the 80's and 90's. Some people probably pretty well let them go for free after the motors died. I've been keeping up with this one a little bit, and it's true inspriration for any FC builder or owner. You can tell the guy loves his car.

I was checking out some of these cars online. I always find it fun to research deeper into different cars and see what I could possibly do with one. I think this is a really classy bodystyle. They look great sitting low on some wheels. I guess this all plays into my idea of getting a bigger body car next for a 2nd daily. The prices on these seem to be pretty good also, but being a Honda/Acura people put alot of miles on them. Finding one with reasonable mileage seems to be pretty hard. Here's a VIP styled version.

The Mercedes bug has really hit me lately. I've always considered myself more of a BMW guys, and I've owned a couple. I just can't get away from the luxury, looks, and raw power some of the Benz's have to offer. I've been taking note of the early 2000's models. The S class is insanely good. I think it would be a little too big for me even though I am looking for a big body car next. They offer a V12 biturbo in the S600 model with 460hp and something like 600tq. The HP is underated from what I read. Of course you could also get a nice V8 in one too. The E class from those years (w210)would probably be what I'd go with next. I've read up on the V8 powered ones and they seem to be very strong runners. The E430 or E55 would be what I'd try to get. This is all still up in the air, but I've had a cruiser car on my mind for a long time now. The STI will most likely stay with me no matter what. So here's a Sclass and Eclass video to show you what I mean.

The last few days have been crazy and awesome. I drove up last friday to the Bay for HF BBQ by the Bay. I always try to go up early and stay and extra day or so to spend time with friends. I had a couple of free nights to take this month at the Palazzo in Vegas also. So after spending a couple of days in the Bay I drove back sunday to LA and then from LA to Vegas all in the same day. It was a very very long day, but I was excited to get out of town for a while. It so happened two of my good friends and their women were out there also. We got down on some great food as usual, and we checked out club XS at the Encore. I happy to be back in LA chillin in my room, but I love these quick trips up to the bay or out to Vegas. It really gives me a boost.

I've been hanging a little more low key lately. I needed to focus a little on myself for once to be honest. I have a few things coming up in the next weeks to come. I always try to use the extra time during the summer along with the nice weather to get myself in a little better shape. Luckily a friend who just moved down has the set of P90x dvd's. So I've been working on that for 10 days now. It's pretty intense, and you can notice results and additional strength after just the first week. So I've decided to stick with it. That's the sweat on my shirt after today's workout.

Oh yeah.. and Mark sent me this update picture of his skyline. He has the suspension sorted and he's working on wheel fitment as we speak!

A friend of mine is probably selling his flawless 1st gen Tercel/Corolla for a flawless Celica Supra. The Celica has been in the family for a long time, and He likes the idea of being able to put any kind of motor he likes in it and having suspension options. I saw this one online while looking at widened steelies. I thought it was one of the cleaner ones I've seen. If the front was down just a little more I'd be all over it.

Living in LA has its benefits. One of them is that we are within driving distance of Las Vegas. I've done a couple spur of the moment runs out there where we've left on a Friday late and spent the night walking around Vegas. We didn't get a room. We just toughed it out and drove back first thing in the morning. I love staying at the Palazzo for a couple of nights, but getting a quick taste of Vegas every now and again is an awesome way to start a weekend.

No joke... the best Panda Express I've ever had is right smack in the middle of the strip. It's a great place to pack down some power food while walking around town.

I've been putting together a few things I need for the STI lately. I still need to order some parts. It's amazing no matter how far you get along there is always something else. Like for example I have to smog my car this year. That's always a chore with a modded car.

I'm going to get some SPC camber bolts for the front of the car tomorrow. I need like -0.3 more camber to tuck the fronts a little more so I can go lower and still turn.

The rear Toyo's are pretty well worn out also. I just go new fronts last month. Now the rears are pretty close to being gone also. This pic was from a couple of months back. So you could imagen they are pretty bald now.

Oh yeah... and I also need a pair of new spacers for the rear because I stripped a stud using a bad lugnut. My rear pads have been worn out for a while also. So it's definately time to get those done. I also need a new allignment to finish everything off. I think I'll be pretty much done after that, and then I can focus on some things I actually want to do. Like get a decent radio that I can use my Ipod on.

I thought this EVO was crazy! It's rare to see an EVO around much... especially one sitting super low like this. I'm really feeling the color combo and everything.
I was talking to my friend Tuan who has a clean EVO 9 the other day. When I say clean... I mean flawless. He only has 5 or 6k miles on it, and he got it new in 2006. I'm trying my hardest to make him keep it and step the fitment up on it some. He's been rocking the Advan RS's in 18x9 +29 for three years now. GO Hard man!

The homey Calvin at Genesis Performance Parts has been hooking me up ever since he started up SpeedElement back when. I've been getting alot of accessories lately for my car. He's selling these MXP lugs for way way cheaper than retail. They are super strong, super light, and hellapurple (other colors too)! Unfortunately no lugs other than crappy little ones are fitting into the wheel holes where the studs come through. I'm pretty set on keeping these lugs because I know the wheels I have now are not forever. So next wheels will have to be super baller.

The turnout for Hellaflush 5 was insane. We packed out a 850 spot parking lot in about a hour and a half. I was really happy with the vibe of the meet also. People chilled there all the way up to 5pm when we started heading out ourselves. Thanks to all that made the journey! It was awesome!

I met up with Mark and a couple of homies to watch the Laker game and grub on some CPK. He's here a couple of days early to follow up on a couple of things before the meet on Saturday. It was good sitting down and talking about all sorts of random stuff. We had a really good convo on the direction of the Hellaflush scene. He gaves me some samples of the stickers we'll have available on Saturday. The little ones we are giving out will be these. Perfect timing for the Lakers championship!

The week of! Yeah that's right... Hellaflush 5 at Venice Beach! I've been fine tuning my car's suspension lately getting ready for the Meet. You don't realize how off your ride height can be without a measuring tape. I was anywhere from 1/4" to 1/2" off from side to side. I think everything is good to go now. I'm deciding if I wanna go down another 1/4" in front or not still. Besides that the car is all detailed and ready to go!

Everyone I've been talking to lately is super pumped about Hellaflush 5 at Venice Beach. I know a number of people that have fit buying wheels into their budget just for the meet. There's people coming from a number of different states. I'm getting more and more pumped about this everyday.

I have a couple of new random stupid parts. I figured I needed at least one new thing for HF5. I ordered up a set of gold BLOX lugs. I'm going to take the centercaps off the current wheels also. The lugs minus the caps will give the wheels a little more pop.

I had this Detka (braille) lightweight battery sitting around for a few months. I decided to finally order some terminals for it the other week. I'm deciding when I should put this in. It isn't going to realy help me on my drive to work stoplight to stoplight, and I don't pop my hood at meets.

My parents just got a new place about 2 miles from me. They are directly on the beach now. We helped them move in last weekend, and this weekend we came over for mother's day. We ate so much good food it was rediculous. Then we walked down the boardwalk to Coldstones and ate some icecream. The NBA playoffs are going on so we watched a couple of games. At the end of the day we walked out on the beach with our dogs for the sunset. It was a really nice day!

I've been thinking about different cars I'd like to own in the near future. The Lexus GS or Toyota Aristo in Japan is one of those cars. They look great whether they are stripped out and done up for drifting, or if they are VIP style with pimp interior and great looking wheels. I got to mess around with my new (old) Canon A540 today. It's only a 6mp camera, but there's alot of room for potential in the right hands. I've seen some good shots with these older A series cameras. They are full function cameras and most of the A series Canon's can take lenses with an adapter. I'm just excited to learn new things and really try hard to take good photos on a camera that isn't booming with pixels. Here's a couple of sample shots. The quality is probably going to be down due to blogspot hosting. The A540 is only a 6mp camera, but you can see it can hold its own.

I am sick and tired of not having a garage. Well I kind of do, but it's my apartment's garage thingy. My car can't make it in without ripping off the front and rear bumper even if it was raised. My friend's much higher WRX couldn't make it in without brutally scraping. My parents live pretty close to me, but they just sold their house so it'll probably be occupied in a matter of weeks/months. I usually do all my car related stuff over at their place. I'm trying to squeeze in a few much needed wrenching sessions on my car before it's too late. The good thing is my lease is up pretty soon so I'll be looking for something new. I really need at least a carport that my car will make it in and out of, but I'd love to have a little flat or garage that I could do basic stuff when I need to.

wheel studs and spacers

I spent a couple hours today working on the rear fitment of my car. The original plan was for 15mm's in the rear and 20mm's in the front (fronts are 5mm less inward for whatever reason), but I wound up getting a killer deal on a set of 25mm's. I also wanted to step it up bigtime for the One of One show at Long Beach FD. I'm ready to go to a flush street setup so I ordered some 15mm's for the rear for the time being. The rears were super poking at the show, but still had a really good look with the tire still able to tuck in the fender. The 15mm adapter type spacers require the OEM studs to be trimmed on Subaru's and probably most cars. This isn't anything major if you are mechanically inclined. Just take your time and do it right!

I'm a hardcore Canon camera guy down to bones. I once bought a Sony camera and was completely disappointed despite the specs that should've turned out better. I've been getting the photography itch soooo bad lately. The last fun camera I had was the Canon G9. They are up to the G11 now, but you can't deny the quality you can get with even really old Canon digital cameras. I've been doing alot of research lately and you'd be suprised at what people are doing with less megapixels than you've probably had in years. I have a few cameras in mind right now... I'll be picking up at least two pretty soon. I have another G series in mind if I can find the right deal. Now is the time to check Ebay for this stuff. There's no point in getting a new one right now. I guess it's pretty easy to buy a big bad camera these days and become a "pro" in a matter of weeks, but I like to try a little harder. I like some of the older style photos also.

abu dhabi

I've mentioned the track in Abu Dhabi to a few people in recent months, and many people haven't heard of it yet. I saw some coverage on Speedhunters about a GT1 race there. If you didn't know this track is state of the art, and the newest, hottest thing in Abu Dhabi. There's even a Hotel on the track.

I've probably watched Dave Chappelle's "For What it's Worth" DVD 25 times by now. I always get a good laugh when I think of the Drink vs. Juice comedy he does. I saw this at the 99 cent (aka 99.9999 in CA) only store and it was worth the buck just for laughs sake.

I decided to switch the look up for tomorrow's One of One show at FD long beach. The final result is a 18x9.5 wheel with a +10 offset and 225 width tires. This will probably not be my daily setup, but it's gonna look pretty darn good at the show.

I was talking to Mark Arcenal last night about some of the old events we had back in the day. We had this really cool grassroots drift day in Albany, CA in the parking lot of a Horse Race track. The event was awesome. I was there the day before for the set up. I had a Porsche 914 at the time and was able to hit the course up a few times. I actually got sideways in that car a few times... it was a blast. Here's some OG pics of Mark's S14. I'm glad his new setup will bring alot of the old flare back, but this time with more muscle.

I just got back from a three day trip in the best place on earth, Vegas! My older brother has never been so I immediately setup a trip to get him, my best friend, and his best friend out there. I was comped two nights at the Palazzo. We had an awesome time! Here's some crappy cell snaps from the room.

HID's

DDM has their HID kits at a really low price right now so I figured I'd get one for the tiburon. The install was easy enough. The passenger headlight doesn't leave you much room to change a bulb out though. I was thinking that would suck if you needed to change in an emergency situation. Anyways at first I was a little dissappointed because the bulbs looked more blue (like the pics below) than what I was expecting (more of an OEM STI look like I wanted). After I drove around for a few minutes and everything warmed up they looked just like the 6k color that I wanted! So all is well.
